Puerto Rico
We visited Puerto Rico ten years ago and were eager to return. We love the charm of Old San Juan, where we stayed, the vividly colorful buildings, the friendly people...and the food! We even returned to a restaurant we'd been to ten years before!
We had an excellent guide, Carlitos of Charlie's Custom Tours, who picked us up at our hotel.
We loved exploring the streets of Old San Juan, which is known as La Ciudad Amurallada (the walled city). Miles of city walls complete a fortification system that protected San Juan Harbor from pirates and foreign invasion.
Old San Juan, the historic colonial section of the city of San Juan, is a National Historic Landmark District, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Architecture is part of the attraction of Old San Juan and visitors are captivated by the balconies, elegant doors, and colonial details. Puerto Ricans respect and celebrate the island’s past, evident with carefully restored buildings painted in colors that represent the vibrant and diverse culture of the island.
Following the cruise we returned to Old San Juan, enjoyed a last dinner of delicious authentic Puerto Rican food at El Jibarito, and left the following morning for some new adventures in Texas!
